I like the cropping of the "S" icon and the "queen" one, but I'm afraid I'll have to say no for now -- if you'd like to hear some constructive criticism, please answer to this comment, I'll be glad to help. But then, there are two more mods here, and they might say yes :)

I'd say...yes!
I must say I like your work, it's nice to see an iconmaker who's got a recognizable style and doesn't just crop the picture to make an icon, so I'd say 'yes', but you'll have to wait for one more vote :) The only thing I could say against your icons (I hope you don't mind, you said you'd like concrit) is that sometimes they are a bit too bright and too sharpened, ie in the first icon you posted Susan's face is a bit too bright to look at and the oval of her face has a bit rough edges, a sign of over sharpening. The fo banner seems to be over sharpened too. But I really like for example icon #6 and the whole batch and the Aslan icon here has beautiful coloring.

Narnia actors icons are fine :) I must say this is difficult -- you have talent, but I think you need a bit more practice, but you are close, very close. I'm saying no for now, but if the other mods say yes, then you're in :) If you'd like constructive criticism, then please answer this comment.

I must say I like the last icon you posted here, and the fo banner is interesting, but the other icons you posted are different and seem to lack in some departments. If you'd like to hear constructive criticism, please answer to this comment.
As this community has 3 mods and only 2 need to approve, you have still chance to be accepted :)

Application
Okay, here's my application to the comm. I have no idea why I get more nervous about these than I do putting icons up for contests, but I do. Silly me...

I'd like concrit whether accepted or not, mainly because while I am developing my own style, I'd also like to know if there are things I can do to improve in general :D

A number of these were entered in icontests in the last few weeks, so I hope they're okay to use.

No for now
Hmm, I'm on the fence, but I think I'll say no for now. You're on good way, but there are still some things that you should work on, especially typography -- it's the first thing we notice about your icons instead of the real object of the icons, the photos. For example, in the last banner, the 'warrior prince' is too overwhelming and W covers a bit of Skandar's head. Normally, it's better when text doesn't interfere with the character you've got in your graphics. Sometimes it's even better to leave an icon/banner textless if you can't find any way to make the text fit/suit the icon. Also in your third icon the text is too imposing and it would be better to have it less visible like in your second icon. Remember too that text has to be legible (I'm not talking now about tinytext) -- the fourth icon's text is too difficult to read and the letters are too far from each other. Also be careful when using brushes under text in order to make text more visible -- try to make it more subtle, because the brushes you sometimes used are too out there. Think of it this way -- try to make icons that people won't know how were created, that is they won't see the brushwork, the textures etc.
Also be careful with sharpening/brightening, the last three of your icons are a bit oversharpened.
You could introduce gradients and more blends to your work, too, but that's up to you, it depends on what you like.
I hope you will find this useful. And as you have to be approved by only two from three mods, you still have chance to get in:)
And btw, I remember your icons from narnia_icontest :)

for now...no
I think you should work a bit more and practice. The second icon is not sharp enough and the text there needs some improvement through using brushes under it, or putting some textures/blends over it to make it more fit the icon. The text in the last icon is difficult to read. In the fourth icon there's too much light and Anna's face looks too bright. On the other hand, the second icon would do with some improvement of light, not necessarily brightening it, but maybe using some blends or gradients. Another important thing to remember is sharpening -- too much of it is not nice to look at because the image is pixelised, but too blurry photos look strange too.
All in all, I think it would be good for you to work a bit with colours, textures, try out different blends and remember about sharpening/contrast tools. I hope you'll find this useful, and good luck!

No for now
The last but one icon is interesting, but the Lucy and home icons are too bright -- the light textures are overwhelming and it's a bit painful to look at them. Also be careful with text -- the text in the first icon needs a bit of antialiasing, and in second and home icons is overwhelming. The banner seems to be too dark and the font you choose in my opinion doesn't fit the banner.
I looked at your multifandom post and I really like #9, but ie #34, #40 are oversharpened while part of the Walk to Remember icons are bleached out.
I think you need a bit more practice yet, I hope these hints will be useful :)

I will say yes, but it's based mostly on the icons you've not included here, in this comment :) I think that #4 is too sharp and too bright -- I like this colouring in your other icons from your last posts, though. #2 seems to be a bit oversharpened too, but I like the concept a lot :)

I'm afraid that these still aren't what we're looking for here -- you should work a bit on text, try not to have it always black and/or cover it with some blends so that it won't stand out so much. Also be careful with sharpening/brightening -- the first icon is too sharp and so is the fourth one. The last but one icon seems to be a bit bleached out to me.
I hope this will prove useful :)

I love the icon #5 and #1 is very creative, but all in all I think you have to improve the use of textures and lightening/sharpening. In #4 texture is over the face of Peter and dims it, #3 is too bright and oversharpened (Skandar's cheek has pixelised border), the same applies to #10. Remember, be careful with sharpening (if the picture is blurry but sharpening makes it oversharpened, try fixing the pic manually through unsharp mask; fixing contrast also helps) and light.
I hope this will help and good luck! :)

I love the way you use colours, although I think that in the third icon here the lips are oversharpened -- did you use gaussian blur on one layer to make the "glow" effect? It's sometimes tricky... I love your whole Narnia batch as you know from my nominations *whistles innocently*

I think I'll say yes because I like 3rd icon a lot as well as the "hidden" icon, but be careful with the "soft" look -- sometimes it's great and sometimes it's just making an icon too light and blurry (Susan icon here). And although I like the idea of the 2nd icon, normally it's better to steer text off people's faces (yes, there's the trend now for doing the opposite, but let's leave that aside for the sake off the argument...).
And I'd like to say sorry for responding so late -- I had problems with internet connection for more than a week so I couldn't keep up with lj :(

A Question for the Mods.
To the mods of goodnarnianart

Hello. I am very sorry if this is out of place. I am not applying at the moment, but I do need help with something, if any of you would be willing to assist.

I run narnia_100, a 100 icon challenge. All skill levels are welcome, but I do state in the rules that they are not to post bases and that effort should be put into the work. Well, for a certain participant’s first set, I strongly question the effort that was put into the icons. I believe that it is not just a lack of skill, but a complete and utter lack of effort.

In the interest of fairness, I would like a second opinion before I say anything to the participant. I am asking you three because I feel you have more experience than I when it comes to judging the quality of icons, particularly Narnia icons. If one of you could give me your opinion on the subject, I would be very grateful.

The set in question can be found here.

Thank you

~EmiV

Re: A Question for the Mods.
I'm sorry I'm replying so late, but I had problems with my internet connection.

I looked at the icons and whereas making an animated icon takes some time, the icons under artist's choice are made without least effort -- it's just taking the same base (well, not really a base, because the sharpness and quality is not fixed) and once clicking on filter>artistic> and once clicking on one option, then clicking on a different option for a new "icon". This is really effortless.
I hope you'll get this in time :)

Hmm, this is difficult -- I love the third icon you posted here, the 2nd one is interesting and the "alone" icon is also good, but the last one lacks the clarity of the "alone" icon. I know that there's the trend for bleached out icons, but this one is a bit too much for me -- if only a part of the icon would have been so light it would have been nice. Also the first icon seems to lack something, but if you'll remember about making your icons crisp like the alone icon and/or delicate without blurring then everything should be perfect :)

I like the way you used text in the banner, but often your art is a bit blurry and/or washed out. The cropping on the second icon is very good, though. Maybe a bit more practice and you'll make perfect graphics, but I'd say no for now.
